The Fuji name later lived on in Portland, where coach Frank Fukuda became a major force in Northwest Japanese American baseball. After moving there in 1927, Fukuda led Fuji teams to league and tournament championships while helping connect Japanese American clubs throughout the region. Baseball became more than a pastime: it was a way for immigrant communities to build identity, friendships, and belonging.
