Crochet Tee

Description

Crochet is hook and thread and nothing else. No machine, no shortcut, no way to speed up what an artisan's hands do one stitch at a time. The Crochet Tee places that craft on the left chest of a cotton jersey tee in the form of a hand crocheted watermelon slice, roughly an inch and a half, vivid in color and sewn onto the garment by hand. It is a piece of folk textile work applied to the most universal garment in anyone's wardrobe, and the contrast between how long the crochet took to make and how simple the shirt underneath is gives this tee its entire character. The body is cut classic and constructed in Los Angeles with single stitch finishing on the sleeves and hems. Single stitch is the construction method that gave vintage t-shirts their flat, clean seams and soft drape, the way every tee was finished before manufacturers moved to double stitching and heavier fabric in the nineties. We kept the original method because on a garment this simple, the finishing is the construction. The cotton jersey carries the weight and feel of a shirt that will soften with every wash and wear closer to the body over time. Only one per size was produced.
